Be careful out there, folks.  From the UPD:

On Monday, December 14, 2009, at 7:51 a.m., a female student was accosted as she was walking out of the north stairwell of the 4th Street Garage. The suspect was standing by the newspaper rack at the bottom of the stairwell when he grabbed the victim around her neck from behind. When the victim screamed he let go and ran into the first floor of the 4th Street Garage. The victim flagged down a UPD officer and an extensive search of the garage was conducted. The suspect has not been located.

The suspect is described as a white male in his twenties, 5’10″ tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing all black clothing and a black beanie cap. According to the victim, the suspect appeared to be a student but was not carrying a bag or any books.

The University Police Department would like to remind the campus community to be constantly aware of your surroundings. When possible, walk with another person and report suspicious activity immediately. Anyone with information about this incident should contact the University Police Department at (408) 924-2222 or leave an anonymous tip at (408) 924-2236.

About the takehome essay

Posted in prof post on December 12th, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

Just sharing some final tips:

Be sure to incorporate specific examples, and direct quotes from the text in your analysis, and perhaps add one or independent examples from other readings (best), or your own experience. Remember, it’s an exam, so it has to include enough from the reading that I know you’ve read and digested the ideas for yourself.

But it’s an original essay, so it also has to be in your own voice, so while you may give pro and con type arguments, you definitely want to be specific about  your own argument, your own thesis.

About the Final

Posted in prof post on December 10th, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

Hey All,

Just a reminder about our final next Tuesday, December 15 at 9:45am in our regular classroom.  You should have received the Final Takehome Essay (download here if you didn’t) which is 50% (100 pts) of your exam.

Bring the exam with you on Tuesday when you will take the in-class Final for another 100 points.  Please bring Scantron form 886-E (essay form).  You will not have an essay on the in-class final, but there will be some short-answer questions in addition to Multiple Choice.

Be sure to see the Course Review links on the blog which cover notes and content of the entire semester.  For the final, you are responsible for all lecture content, student presentations, videos, and assigned reading.  The exam is cumulative, with about a 40% focus on the first half, and 60% on the second half of the semester.

If you have any questions, drop me an email.
