Gender experiment essays due!

Today we are watching a terrific film that gives a great historical example of the different social forces that construct gender roles.  In the classic film Rosie the Riveter, we’ll see that during WWII, labor shortages led the U.S. government to encourage women to enter the labor force in support of the war effort. Gender norms changed radically in a short period of time.  I’ll hand out this studyguide to help you take notes on the film.

The local city of Richmond is home to the Rosie the Riveter WWII National Historical Park. Check out their site and resources.

If you missed the film, you can make it up by going to the IRC at the southeast end of DMH, first floor – they’ll either have it or can broadcast it for you, and you can watch it there at your convenience…they have great hours, like 8am to 9pm most days.

No class Monday! Gender identity experiment due Wednesday in class – one page single-spaced.

Thanks for hanging in with me today.  Just to clarify:

1. Please register on the blog asap so that you will get notes like this emailed to you directly.
2. Bring quiz Scantron form 815-E on Wednesday.  This is the smaller quiz form I mentioned, that we will use regularly.
3. Buy your reader at San Jose Copy, 124 E. Santa Clara Street (near corner of Fourth & Santa Clara).  From the MLK library, walk one block (to your right) to Santa Clara, and go around the corner to your left….Fourth Street Pizza is on the near corner, and San Jose Copy is a tiny shop down about four doors.
4. Read the first two articles in the Reader for Wednesday. I handed out Study Guides which I will not collect from you – they are strictly for use to help you understand the reading, and what I expect you to get out of the reading.  This material will be on the quiz.
5. Read your syllabus!  At least one or two quiz questions will be about the syllabus.
